Descripción Asa Hull, 1899. Hardcover. Estado de conservación: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Jacket As Issued. Gospel Echoes: A Collection of Original and Selected Songs(Suitable for Prayer Meetings, Revivals, and All Devotional Exercises), Portrait Edition, Edited by Asa Hull, was published by Asa Hull, 132 Nassau Street, New York City, New York, in 1899. Not an ex-library copy, this 5 1/4" X 7 3/4", 224-page, 113-year-old offering, COMPLETE WITH ITS ORIGINAL, LIGHT BROWN BACKGROUND WITH DARK BROWN DECORATIONS AND LETTERING cover boards, is in G condition. Said cover boards are, overall, still very, very nice, despite some modest shelf wear around various edges, and a column of four, smallish numbers, in fading ink, seen in upper-left portion of back cover board. Clear taping was needed on 10-12, random pages, roughly, to shore up/keep from worsening, as the general state of the pages throughout(especially at their extremities) is a bit vulnerable/of a somewhat brittle, tender quality, owing to this offering's advancing years. There is limited, smallish writing on pp. 92-93/114, and the outer-bottom corners of pp.71-100 are creased, from out of the dim past. From Introduction, "Whatever may be said about the multiplicity of music books, all agree that there still is room for a first-class book for Social Worship. It is not enough that the songs are good in themselves, but they must be adapted to the place and sphere they are to fill. [This offering] is a happy blending of the new and old, about equal numbers of each, selected for their special adaptation to Church work, Gospel Meetings, and all other devotional exercises." This true slice of religious Americana contains such of "the new and old" as "Nearer, My God, To Thee", "The New Jerusalem", "Jesus, and Can It Be?", "Calling Me Home", "On To Victory", "Excelsior", "More Love To Thee", and "The Haven of Peace", among, literally, dozens, and dozens, more. This Portrait Edition features just that--the book's Frontispiece is a 3 3/4" X 4 1/2", black and white portrait/photograph of Asa Hull. Also included are some three Indexes(of Titles, of Familiar Hymns, and, of Subjects). Again, rarely have I seen an old-fashioned, religious songbook of this one's years with cover boards that can be so enjoyed/appreciated. Thanks very much!!. Nº de ref. de la librería 005972
