Large octavo, 215 pages, central section of historical photographs as illustrations. * Inscribed, Mary Love from Keith / 2001 on title page. Spine a little faded otherwise fine. ** In the 19th century more than 300,000 government-assisted emigrants came from Ireland and Britain to Australia. The sale of colonial lands provided most of the money need for the operation and the British Colonial Office provided the organization. This tells how one department assembled, housed, fed, maintained the health and provided information for awaiting emigrants in depots based in port towns such as Plymouth, Southampton and Birkenhead. Provides an important history into a little known part of the Australian immigrant story. N° de ref. de la librería 002017
