Descripción

First printing of this edition, and first American edition in hardcover. INSCRIBED in the year of publication on the front endpaper to Denver Post book editor Clarus Backus: "For Clair and Earlene / Thank you for one of those very good, very rare evenings / John D. MacDonald / 14 July '73." Laid in is a sheet of Denver Post stationery, a clipped article from The Denver Post by Ms. Backus about MacDonald's death, and a glossy Doubleday review photo from 1968, for the book "Three for McGee." Near Fine in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Bookplate of noted collector Duke Collier on the front pastedown. Jacket is lightly rubbed at the extremities, with a touch of the usual fading on the spine. A very nice and extremely scarce presentation copy of a key Travis McGee title. Helena Pearson.  Undeniably beautiful . . . indisputably rich . .  incredibly wanton . . . the perfect client for Travis McGee.  He did a big favor for her husband and then for the lady herself.  Now Helena is dead, and McGee finds out that she had one last request to make of him: find out why her beautiful daughter, Maurie, keeps trying to kill herself.  So, half-convinced that Maurie needs a good doctor and not a devil-may-care beach bum, McGee makes his way to the prosperous town of Fort Courtney, Florida, a respectable, booming, deadly little place. . . .
