Full red morocco, gilt lettering on front cover & spine, gilt ruling on front cover, red endpapers (light rubbing to hinges, slight shelfwear), still NF copy, signed by Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) on ffep., from the library of Olive M. Skogerson (b. 1893), Swedish-American immigrant, who in 1930s worked her way from stenographer to comptroller with Fox Motion Picture Studio, with her address label on lower corner of ffep. First edition, first printing, signed of this excellent biography of George & Ira Gershwin, and their impact on American music in the 20th century. Ira (Israel) Gershwin was an American lyricist whose work with his younger brother George, included Lady, Be Good, The Man I Love, Fascinating Rhythm, Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Rhythm, and They Can't Take that Away From Me. The year this biography was published Ira & George Gershwin scored the Pre-Code movie, "Delicious" for Fox Films, featuring the Rhapsody in Rivets, later expanded into the Second Rhapsody. They also contributed more songs and score, but these were cut by Fox in the original release. Ira Gershwin won the 1932 Pulitzer Price for Drama for Of Thee I Sing, together with George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind. After George Gershwin's sudden death in 1937, Ira Gershwin went on to work with Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, and Harold Arlen, and would be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song three times.
