Título: The Funeral Procession of Madam Geneva Sepr....
Editorial: London Sold by S.Lyne at the Globe in Newgate Street. c
Año de publicación: 1740
Broadside, oblong folio, engraved some dustiness, blank margins frayed (no text affected), one cross tear neatly repaired, printed one side as issued. A Satire on Gin and the Act of 1736 which placed a Tax on Retail Sales. The illustration shows a Funeral Procession headed by the coffin of "Madam Geneva" followed by a never ending trail of mourners. At the head of the sheet is printed "To those Melancholy Sufferers ( by a late Severe Act) the Distillers this plate is most humbly Inscribed by a Lover of Trade". This print was first issued in 1736 by John Clarke and then in two variations by John Bowles in 1751. Samuel Lyne was in business at the Newgate address in c1740. This variant probably from the original plate with alterations seems to be unrecorded. See BM No. 3121 for other issues. N° de ref. de la librería 16019
