A genuine US first edition / first printing, with the full numberline 13579108642 on the copyright page. A great copy of this brilliant novel, satirising the American legal system. Gaddis was termed 'the American James Joyce' when his first novel 'The Recognition' was published in 1955, and won the National Book Award for 'J.R.' in 1975. 'A Frolic of his Own' is his fourth novel. There is a neat owner's inscription on the front end paper. Small amount of shelf-wear to both jacket and book. These are very minor faults. The jacket is not price-clipped. The book block is tight and square. No book-plates or ex-library stamps. We protect all our books with a removable plastic cover, and store them out of sunlight. Acerca de

Told largely in dialogue, this novel is a modern American nightmare, the painfully comic story of two lawsuits that get very badly out of hand. In the first suit Oscar, a college history teacher, has managed to run himself over while attempting to start his car.

A dazzling fourth novel by the author of The Recognitions, Carpenter's Gothic, and JR uses his considerable powers of observation and satirical sensibilities to take on the American legal system. Reprint. 30, 000 first printing.
