The collection in fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with occasional wear and chipping to extremities (but see Item Fourteen below). Text of all but one item clear and complete. The first seven items were formerly attached through a pin-hole in the top inner corner of each. The others carry traces of the stubs and leaves to which they were attached in an album. Ranging in size from 26 x 21 cm to 19 x 12 cm. ITEM ONE: 'St. John's College Kitchen' by 'Wm. Garnett, Steward'. 12mo, 2 pp. On bifolium. Undated. The recto of the first leaf carries a 'Price List of Preserves, &c.', beginning with Greengage Jam at 10d. The reverse of the second leaf has details of services, beginning 'OATMEAL PORRIDGE can be supplied at or after 8 a.m. at 4d. per head; regularly for 1/6 per week.' ITEM TWO: 'St. John's College Chapel Services. October Term, 1878.' 12mo, 4 pp. In bifolium. Gives date of service, name of music, along with hymn and tune number. ITEM THREE: 'St. John's College. Mathematical Lectures. Michaelmas Term, 1878.' 4to, 1 p. List with column headings Subject, Div., Lecturer, Lecture Room, Times, Begin on. ITEM FOUR: 'St. John's College. Michaelmas Term, 1878. Lectures for the General and Previous Examinations.' 4to, 1 p. List with column headings 'Division, Subject, Lecturer, Place, Time, Begin. ITEM FIVE: 'St John's College. October, 1878.' 4to, 4 pp. Giving rules and regulations. The first two pages divided under subheadings including 'Dress, &c.' ('You are required to wear your College cap and gown during the whole of Sunday [.] The Proctors impose a fine on Students found without their academical dress [.]') and 'Tradesmen's Bills.' P.3 carries nine 'Examination Rules', and p.4 carries 'Rules relating to Residence'. ITEM SIX: 'St. John's College Kitchen. - Tarriff of Charges.' ('Approved by J. S. Wood, President.) 4to, 1 p. Numerous items, arranged with prices in two columns, under subheadings Soups, Fish, Poultry and Game, Meat, Dressing Joint, Pies. ITEM SEVEN: 'St. John's College Debating Society, Lent Term, 1879.' 12mo, 3 pp. List of names, with the four officers on p.1, and pp.2 and 3 carrying 'List of Members Resident Lent Term, 1879. ITEM EIGHT: 'St John's College, Cambridge.' 12mo, 1 p. Giving the rules of admission and 'Subjects of Lectures for Freshmen', 1863 and 1864. Begins 'ANY person wishing to be admitted a member of the College must send to one of the Tutors a Certificate of his Baptism, [.]'. ITEM NINE: 'St John's College, Cambridge.' 12mo, 2 pp. The first page giving the rules of admission, beginning as Item Eight. Second page giving the 'Subjects of Lectures for Freshmen', completed in manuscript and dated 'March 16 1864'. ITEM TEN: Transcript, in type, of letter from W. H. Bateson to an unnamed male, dated 'St John's College Lodge, May 29, 1862' and headed 'Private'. 4to, 2 pp. ITEM ELEVEN: Eight-line Latin poem by Churchill Babington of St John's College, on pink paper, with decorative border, celebrating the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to 'the Horticultural Fete held in the grounds of St John's College, Cambridge, June 3, 1864'. 12mo, 1 p. ITEM TWELVE: Headed 'Saint John's College, Cambridge.' 4to, 3 pp. Bifolium. Giving information about the College for the coming year 1864, and beginning 'AT this College there are fifty-six Fellowships, and sixty Foundation Scholarships, open to all British subjects, without any appropriation.' ITEM THIRTEEN: Headed 'St John's College, 7 December, 1865. | The Committee appointed on 15 Feb., 1865, to consider the question of Painted Windows for the New Chapel, with respect to the selection of an artist and to the general character of the windows, beg leave to report: [.]'.
