Book condition: very good, very scarce 1835 two volume set, the author compares American to British and European society with notes on William IV and George Washington, subsequent chapters cover travel by trains and stagecoaches, the topography and general view of London, crime and police of London, the British Parliament and the monarchy and aristocracy, both volumes bound in gold cloth with rows of raised fleur di lis, boards have darkened, spines are sunned with bright gilt, there are two tiny black spots on the spine tail of volume two, names and addresses on both front pastedowns, light foxing to back pastedown of vol. I, heavier to back pastedown of vol. II which also shows one line underlined and one light pencil mark otherwise both interiors clean, a few tiny chips off the fore edge of the last few pages of vol.
