In the original brick-red boards with deep black titling to the spine. The base colour to the spine is slightly faded but all lettering is clear. No dustjacket BUT the former owner has made his own d/j by using a clear plastic cover then photocopying, in b/w, the title, author, the publisher and a photo from the book and making a 'collage' of the copies appropriately inside the clear plastic cover to the spine and the front cover, thus protecting the book and simulating a d/j. The page fore-edges are uniformly browning/foxed (brown spotted) but internally there are NO Inscriptions or Marks and the book block is VG. With a Foreward by General Sir Hubert Gough. 211 pp. Illustrated with a b/w frontispiece and 5 other b/w plates. Overall a Clean, Tight and Bright copy of a Scarce book on World War One . A 'Memoir' of the First World War by a "Trooper" who joined a 'Well-known' Cavalry Regiment in 1914, but in 1916 found himself going to France as an Infantryman. As General Gough puts it in the Foreward - " This story does not deal with profound questions of strategy, political and military, but it does tell of the daily life of the many civilians who became good and gallant soldiers during the course of the (1st World) War. ". Considering the author's pseudonym and the fact that he was a Cavalryman there is actually very little on this, but the authors' 'tales' are much more about his time as an Infantryman and Trench warfare, etc, etc, later in the war. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
