Contents: Poems principally on Icelandic-Canadian subject matter, with many carrying a notation as to their genesis in Winnipeg or other Manitoba and Saskatchewan locations (including Kandahar, Saskatchewan). On p. 19 is a poem re winter's glory in Manitoba; sunset in Kandahar, Saskatchewan, 1916; ditty written in Winnipegosis, Manitoba; poem named "Fall", written in Winnipeg. SUBJECTS: Poetry/Ljóð; Icelandic-Canadian literature; Íslenskar bókmenntir. AUTHOR BIO : The author was born in 1885 in Dalasýsla, West Iceland, the son of Jónatan Thorsteinsson and Sigríður Gísladóttir. He attended Agricultural College at Eiðar, East Iceland, in 1909, emigrated to Canada in 1912, active in Good Templars in Winnipeg first years, enlisted in the Canadian Army from Wynyard, Sask. in 1916 and served overseas, active in Icelandic National League in Winnipeg during the 1920s, retruned to Iceland in 1930 (spent 18 years in Canada, during which time he wrote this book).
