ASSOCIATION COPY - Inscribed and signed by the author who was an Icelandic-Canadian writer and businessman in Winnipeg, Canada. In 1919 he founded the largest box factory in Western Canada in Winnipeg and he contributed financially to literary publications and the reforestation of Iceland. The book is inscribed (in Icelandic) to fellow author Johann Magnus Bjarnason; the latter was "one of those few Western Icelandic writers who gained popularity on both sides of the Atlantic" (Neijmann, The Icelandic Voice, , p. 146). He came to Canada at a young age. Neijmann states "the author creates a folklore, a body of legends for the West Icelanders . . .". His novel of Nova Scotia "has considerable cultural and historical value" (see Einarsson, History or Icelandic Prose Writers, p. 241). Bjarnason "emigrated from Iceland to Nova Scotia with his parents at age nine; became a schoolteacher in western Canada, 1889; after his retirement lived at Elfros, Saskatchewan (Kirkconnell, Canadian overtones)".PUBLISHER: Winnipeg : höfundurrin, 1944.
