Two volume set. 1722. The third edition, revised and corrected. Books size - 6.5 x 4.75 inches, pp. frontis + 1 + 2 + 344 and frontis + 287 + 1 (ad) + 16 (ads), full calf bindings. Books condtion - Good ; both volumes in a similar condition and common to both are : preliminaries and first ten or so pages soiled with some creasing and with some losses which have been repaired with a similar type of paper but which is obvious (repairs neatly done), the bulk of the textblocks are clean with the very occasional mark and no foxing. small ink inscription ( "J Sobey" ?) on the title pages, inner hinges split but the boards are firmly attached and the binding is firm ; brown full calf with plain double-line gilt around the perimeter of the boards and raised bands on the spine with gilt " 1" or " 2 " on each ; the leather binding has been refurbished with corners repaired with matching leather, though with a couple of corners this has resulted in slightly raised areas aat the corners, the board edges show some wear but are intact, the board leather is in good condition with some minor marks consistent with age, the spines are complete with slight loss at the head and tail, the spines leather is in good condition and the gilt is a little rubbed and dulled but remains visible. the board hinges have been repaired with a Japanese paper dyed to match the boards such that it is visible only on close inspection. Attibuted to Pierre de Villiers , 1648-1728, and as an English translation of " Les memoires de la vie du Comte D***." The original author of Les Memoires is given in the book as by Charles de Saint-Évremond ( who, after 1661, lived in exile, mainly in England, and is buried in Poets' Corner, Westminster. - biog. information from Wikipedia ). Yet, modern versions state the author as Villiers. . A scarce two-volume set of an early edition of this work in period bindings.
