Descripción:

1st ed. thus. Frontis, 762p + 8 plates (dated from Sept. 1821 to Jan. 1822). Probably issued in parts. Original full calf, worn and rubbed with some abrasions, espec. outside top corner of front board, but binding sound. Some marginal dust soiling; old water stain to bottom edges of frontis and engraved titlepage and gutter between (photos available). Printed by Henry Fisher at the Caxton Press in London. Despite the title page, the running title is ‘Fatherless Fanny; or, The little mendicant’. Garside, The English novel 1770-1829 records the first appearance of this work as being 1811 and attributes authorship to Maria Edgeworth but notes that authorship has been attributed to both Clara Reeve and Thomas Peckett Prest. The 1811 edition had the title ‘Fatherless Fanny; or, The memoirs of a little mendicant, and her benefactors. A modern novel’. Many times reprinted, the first use of this title is recorded by Garside as being in a printing by Fisher dated 1833. This printing not noted in Copac. A very good copy. N° de ref. de la librería
