Descripción:

Profusely illustrated catalogue in paper wraps; 11½ x 8½ inches; 52pp; catalogue contains several loose sheets relevant to ordering goods (a folded sheet with printed grid to plan your own barn floor--each square = 1 foot; also a mail-in card for free booklet: "Haying Tools.") Four page glued price sheet at front has come detached. Several creases and very short tears to front cover. Booklet features all manner of farm buildings; also barn doors, tools, cupolas, and various building accessories. Color covers depicts lounging cows with handsome barn in background and, at rear, the Gordon-Van Tine works on the Mississippi at Davenport, Iowa. Overall good condition. WorldCat lists only four libraries holding this catalogue. Testimonial letters printed on verso of front cover are dated 1924, but it appears the catalogue was issued over several years; this particular copy contains a loose price-list dated 1926. The catalogue pictures remarkable farm buildings including the impressive "Gothic Roof" barn, several "Gambrel-Roofed Barns" and numerous other styles. Many additional buildings designed for livestock, poultry, agricultural products, equipment storage, etc. Interior stalls and steel barn equipment are also described and pictured. The catalogue observes, in describing the amenities of the firm's Hog House, "The hog, long known as the 'mortgage lifter,' is usually the last animal on the place to be properly housed." Gordon-Van Tine provides several models to address that failing. A fascinating catalogue documenting farm buildings and equipment in the years before the rise of agribusiness and the dominance of factory farms. Good condition, with issues noted; an uncommon item. Descripción Gordon-Van Tine Co. Davenport, Iowa. No date. Ca. 1923., 1923. wrappers. Profusely illustrated catalogue in paper wraps; 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; 64pp; catalogue contains several loose sheets relevant to ordering goods. Remnant of paste-on information sheet on front cover. Booklet features all manner of farm buildings; also barn doors, tools, cupolas, and various building accessories. Color covers depict cows returning to the barn and, at rear, the Gordon-Van Tine works on the Mississippi at Davenport, Iowa. Very good condition. WorldCat lists only four libraries holding this catalogue. It has been dated 1917 by one library based, presumably, on testimonial letters printed on verso of front cover, but it appears the catalogue was issued over several years as this particular copy contains loose order sheets encouraging purchases before May 15, 1923. The catalogue pictures remarkable farm buildings including the impressive "Gothic Roof" barn, the extraordinary "Round Barn," and numerous other styles. Many additional buildings designed for live stock, poultry, agricultural products, equipment storage, etc. Interior stalls and steel barn equipment are also described and pictured. The catalogue observes, of the firm's poultry houses: "we provide amply for sunlight.Sunshine will start the hens singing, working, and laying, as nothing else will." A fascinating catalogue documenting farm buildings and equipment in the years before the rise of agribusiness and the dominance of factory farms. Very good condition; an uncommon item.
