8vo 8" - 9" tall; 246 pages; In a fine binding of 1/2 polished blue calf and marbled, blue paper covered boards. Spine in six panels with two morocco labels brightly lettered in gilt. Other panels decorated with rose and garland gilt tooling. Attractive heraldic bookplate of Rodman Wanamaker is mounted to the front pastedown. Contents bright and clean. Leather over corners and spine is lightly rubbed at spine edges and ends; slighly heavier rubbing at corner tips with boards peaking through leather. An uncommon history of the affair of the Macaroni Preacher, William Dodd, who was executed for the forgery of a bond in 1777. Samuel Johnson famously tried to intercede in the matter of the capital punishment and execution of the spendthrift minister. An attractively bound and well preserved example with the provenance of the dynamic philanthropist and Department Store magnate, Rodman Wannamaker. VG. N° de ref. de la librería 14439
