Some references attribute this work to the publisher, Robert Carter. A history that treats largely with colonial times, with chapters on The Morals of our City Predecessors; Colonial Slavery - Negro Plot; The Primitive Indian Inhabitants of our Island; and The Church in the Fort. Then particulars about the Refomed Dutch, Episcopal, French, Quaker, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Moravian, Baptist, Methodist, and Reformed Presbyterian churches. A chapter on the Jews, and an alphabetical list by denomination of the 150 churches & synagogues in the city as of 1838.
