Descripción Cassell, Peter, and Galpin, London, 1870. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Gustave Dore Engravings Ilustrador. First Thus. With 86 plate illustrations by Dore in steel engravings, and numerous etchings by famous French artists. No date given, but in the style of the 1870s. This is the earlier one-volume edition bound in quarter brown leather at spine and corners, with gilt decorations along spine leather, gilt title, raised bands, gilt foreedges, and Moire endpapers. There is the usual rubbing at the bottom edges, without loss of cloth or leather. The book has been professionally rebacked using the original leather spine, and the endpaper hinges have been replaced with bookbinder cloth hinges, so that the book has become sturdier and firmer than in original state. The front free Moire endpaper has been remounted on heavy period endpaper. The rest of the text and binding are as originally present, clean and bright, except for two minor discoloration spots near the edge of the front cover. The Dore plates and steel engravings are whole, clean and bright, and free of foxing or spotting. Overall, a solid and still very attractive copy, and very scarce. Size: Large Quarto.
