In the country to the north, however, immediately south of the N.E. arm of Mannin bay, the dykes are numerous, well marked, and continuous, and here Mr. Nolan has mapped and traced for considerable distances eleven large dykes, besides smaller ones that range from compact felstone through quartziferous felstones into elvanites, some of the typical felstones being newer and cutting the others; also nine thin dykes of a rock that belongs to the hornblende rocks, and seems to have been metamorphosed along with the schistose rocks. There also appears to be a few intrusive masses of hornblende rock in the ground examined by him, and also in the adjoining country examined by Mr. Cruise. Errismore is the peninsula that is nearly separated from the rest of the main land by the neck of land about one and a half miles wide between Mannin and Ballyconneely Bays, its outlines being irregular, as it is indented by different bays and creeks that have a general bearing of about N.N.E, and S.S.W. The most common rock in this tract are varieties of hornblendite, sometimes graduating into gneiss. These usually have a nodular, curled, or conglomeritic structure. In the schistose rocks, immediately N.E. of Lough Anaserd, is a large tract of hornblende rock, apparently an intrusive mass. This rock ranges from fine to coarsely crystalline, and in structure is from compact to spheroidal and foliated; in the latter cases it seems to be graduating into metamorphosed tuff; or such varieties may have been masses of tuffs that were included in the original mass of igneous rock. In some places the most conspicuous constituents of the rock are amphibole, epidote, and pyrite, associated with a bright greenish or greenish blue felspar; in others it is very felspathic; loca...
