Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, corners, sprinkled edges, somewhat rubbed and worn along extremities, tiny loss of calf at head of spine. Kress B.4881; Goldsmiths 19056 (without the map); Catalogue Russica, i, A-818; Polak 115; not in Einaudi. First edition The author, a merchant at Marseille, proposed a plan for an economic union between France, Russia and Poland and to create commercial possibilities through the Black Sea and Bosphorus. The French government recognized the importance of his ideas and enthrusted him with a mission to Russia, to investigate the possibilities of his plan. Catherine II and Potemkine were also interested in the project and new commercial relations and contacts were established: this is not an utopian dream but it was in actual fact a real and succesful project.
