First American Edition. Fair to Good hardcover/not issued in any dustjacket. Scarce book. Actually a book on science and physics, with chapters on electricity, optics, heat, and liquid and solid bodies, among others. The book is in its original gray paper-covered boards with the original publisher's title label affixed to the spine. Included and still attached are the original 5 fold-out scientific charts and diagrams at the back of the book, which are usually missing when the book is found. All the page edges are rough cut and uneven. The boards are still attached and the text block is still firmly gathered and tight, no pages loose or missing. The book stands perfectly straight, no leaning or cocking, and not rolled. Though it does not appear possible when the book is viewed from the outside, the hinges are sound and still hold the book well. The exterior is somewhat soiled and stained and there is moderate wear at the extremeties, with the corners worn through and rounded, but given its age and the fragile nature of the materials, the book remains in surprisingly nice condition. The spine has seen some abuse and the top one inch is gone, but the label bearing the author's name and title is still present, and, though much rubbed and chipped, the label can still be read. The edges of the spine are chipped. The pages themselves are lightly toned from age, but all text is clear, clean, very sharp and easily read. There is some very occasional light foxing, but better than 90% of the pages have no speckling at all, and it is not a real problem. This is an amazingly solid copy of an important early science book, very collectible. N° de ref. de la librería
