Caroline Bray was a great friend and influence on George Eliot - " The accomplished Cara Bray, ‘always [George Eliot’s] most sympathetic friend’ (Haight, p. 144) , wrote a number of popular educational books ‘notable for their clearness and simplicity’ and ‘expressing the sweet nature to which George Eliot, among others, paid tribute in her letters and journals’ (DNB, Oxford DNB).". " In 1841 Mary Ann [not yet ‘Marian’] Evans (George Eliot) was introduced to Cara and Charles Bray, ‘who were to be her most intimate friends during the next thirteen years’, until her elopement with G. H. Lewes. ‘It is impossible to overestimate the importance of Mary Ann’s introduction to the Brays’ (Haight, pp. 36, 44). Apart from the value of their warm friendship, the years of discussion and enquiry with the sceptical Charles and the religious Cara had a crucial influence on Mary Ann’s own religious opinions. ." . A very scarce and quite important title. " This ‘excellent little book’ is one of her ‘most important’ (DNB). It would be hard to find a more attractive guide to popular Victorian morality.".; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 109283
