publisher: Reykjavík : Prentsmijða [Prentsmijðu] Ísafoldar, 1899. DESCRIPTION: 80 pages ; 17 cm. Recased in quarter red leather and marbled brown/yello paper-over-boards; was bound with other items which have been removed, leaving rear hinge loose but rear free endpaper intact. The prelims and text of the Bergmann item is sound except for one loose signature being pp 67-78. SUBJECTS: Five sermons preached in Iceland during summer of 1899. - i.e., theological writings by a prominent Icelandic-Canadian clergyman and editor. Christianity; Kristni; Predikanir religion; lutheran church; theology; Canadiana. AUTHOR BIO: The author was an Icelandic-Canadian editor, essayist and lecturer - editor of the Icelandic-Canadian Journal Aldamot (The Turn of the Century), published from 1891-1903. This journal was sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but was nevertheless a literary journal, containing , lectures, aticles and book reviews. When Bergmann, a liberal theologian, parted ways with his more conservative colleagues, he founded the journal, Briedablik (Broad View, 1906-1914). He also wrote, compiled and translated other works.
