Hjartar (p. 73) concedes that the third year of this unusual journal was devoted significantly to the writings of North American Icelandic writings (biographical sketches and critiques of the writings of the prominent writers in North America and Iceland), but he fails to include the earlier combined issue number 2-3 published in 1946 which was also focussed on Icelanders who were then writing in Canada and the U. S. (e.g., Stephan G. Stephansson, Guttormur Guttormsson, Johann M. Bjarnasson, Jakobina Johnson and others). We offer this inclomplete set, published in 1946 and 1958 respectively by the Akureyri publisher and friend of New Iceland writers, Arni Bjarnason. The 1946 item is in Very Good condition in softcover, magazine format, 20 X 22 cm., stapled, with author portraits on front cover. The complete volume for 1958 is in Fine conditon, in paperback format, 26 X 19 cm and is unopened (uncut at top edge), hence unread. The map to front cover shows N. America, and Iceland, making the connection between them graphic. Many portraits of the writers from photos grace the pages, and many advertisements placed by businesses in Iceland (some illustrated) appear. Other writers chronicled include Richard Beck, Rev. Haralld S. Sigmar, Benjamin Kristjansson, Jakob Jonsson, Bragi Fridriksson (some of these were in N. America for a period of time and returned to Iceland). Cover of the third year volume includes the statement that "This publication is dedicated to issues common to Icelandiers on both sides of the Atlantic". PUBLISHER: Akureyri : [s.n.] (Prentsmiäja Björns Jónssonar). This serial was published in three volumes from 1945-1958. It was edited by an Akureyri writer and bookseller who had an abiding interest in the Icelandic diaspora in North America. SUBJECTS: Icelanders--Iceland--Periodicals; Icelanders--North America--Periodicals; Icelanders--Canada--Periodicals; Iceland--Periodicals. Referenced in Hjartar, p. 73 (Strangely, Hjartar lists only this 3rd of 3 volumes). At time of cataloguing, only one listing for this serial on Amicus, not at Cornell. Rare indeed.
