Early Sorrow, Thomas Mann, Martin Secker, 1929 A novella which follows the fortunes of the Cornelius family through the eyes of Abel Cornelius, a forty-seven professor at the local university, whose status in society was once highly respected but has diminished markedly. In very good condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering in the spine bright. The colourful end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. There is some toning to the first free page. The top edge retains its original red tint. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in fair condition with loss to the bottom edge of the front board, a tear to the bottom corner of the front cover, loss to the top and bottom edges of the spine, loss to the top edge of the back cover, a tear to the edge of the back cover and loss to the corners.
