Acerca de

This attractively illustrated handbook describes the making of household pottery in New York state from the industry's beginnings on Manhattan Island in the seventeenth century through its eventual decline and disappearance at the beginning of the twentieth century. This is a valuable source book for collectors of New York pottery, for it shows where, when, and by whom their pieces were produced. Since New York ware was sold throughout New England, the Midwest, and the South, collectors all over the country will find this book helpful. Many of the over fifty potteries discussed have hitherto been unknown to historian and collector alike. Thus the Appendix, which lists here for the first time all the potteries of the state, their dates of operation and types of ware produced, as well as all known potters' marks, is an invaluable aid to antique dealers and collectors. The book also contains photographs of the different types of pottery produced in the sate, together with pictures of some of the state's old potteries and their price lists and advertisements.
