Special Order. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery. ; New; BODMER VIII PAPYRUS, 155 x 142 mm. 36 numbered pages. GreekIn the Vatican Library there are eighteen fairly thick folios which contain St. Peter's epistles, which were the final part of an ancient codex written on papyrus (catalogue number P72) and which, according to the acceptable hypothesis put forward by M. Testuz, have at least 180 pages, most of which have been conserved. Indeed, the codex probably contained a broad anthology of texts which covered the apocryphal Birth of María (CANT 50) , the apocryphal correspondence between St. Peter and the Corinthians (CANT 211. IV) , the IXth Ode of Solomon, the Epistle of Judas, Meliton of Sardes' Homily on Easter (CPG 1092) , a fragment of a hymn of his (CPG 1093.17) , Filea's Apologia (CPG 1672) and Psalms 33 and 34, finishing with St. Peter's Epistle. These texts, as listed, form the Bodmer V, X, XI, VII, XIII, XII, XX, IX, and VIII papyri. The codex, which is roughly square in shape, is, on the whole, in good condition. In many cases, the margins appear to be complete, which meands that the original dimensions can be measured fairly precisely at around 160 x 145 mm. It was written by many hands, probably four, and it is believed that this took place between the beginning of the III Century and the first half of the IVth A. D. The bringing together of the various parts that make up the text must have taken place during the IVth Century. The folios that make up the VIII Bodmer Papyrus were presented to Pope Paul VI by the Swiss collector Martin Bodmer in June 1969 and conserve their original catalogue number in the Vatican Library. At present that are kept unbound, with each bifolio protected, as is customary, by sheets of plexiglass, whilst the binding with which it entered the Vatican Library has been added to the Bindings collection.
