8vo. xlx, 663, [7] pp [pp. 655-663 mis-paged 665-673]. Front cover gone, rear leather cover and spine present. Closed tear across title page but without loss [archival tape repair on verso]. Title page inscribed "H.U. Onderdonk 1814." Good+. New York-born Onderdonk [1789-1858] studied medicine in London and Edinburgh and practiced in New York until he was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1815. He then became "one of the most noted churchmen in the ministry of the Episcopal Church"; in 1836 he succeeded William White as Bishop of Pennsylvania.
