RICHTER (Hans). Dreams That Money Can Buy. New York: Films International of America [1947]. 8vo, [24]pp; pictorial wrappers printed in brown on yellow stiff paper (variant to copies with printed green wrappers, no known priority). Cover illustration collage by Max Ernst (from his book “La Semaine de Bonté”). Numerous text illustrations (mostly from photographs), also includes text on inside and back wrappers. Promotional programme for this classic experimental film directed by Hans Richter which won the prize for the best contribution to the progress of Cinematography at the Biennale Film Festival 1947. The seven dream scenarios, shaped after the visions of contemporary avant-garde artists comprise: Desire (Max Ernst), The Girl with the Prefabricated Heart (Fernand Leger), Ruth, Roses and Revolvers (Man Ray), Discs and Nudes Descending the Staircase (Marcel Duchamp; music by John Cage), Ballet (Alexander Calder), Circus (Alexander Calder) and Narcissus (Hans Richter). Other contributors and participants included Louis Applebaum, Paul Bowles, Andre Breton, John Cage, David Diamond, Libby Holman, John Latouche, Darius Milhaud, Dorothea Tanning, &c.
