Acerca de

"The most famous photograph of Che Guevara-it has been called the most famous photograph in the world-was taken by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda on March 6, 1960... When Korda developed the negatives, he was struck by the intense image of Che gazing upward; he cropped out everything else and printed the image of Che's face" (Goldberg, 156). Korda's photograph was rejected for publication by his newspaper and "remained unknown until Korda gave a copy to an Italian visitor in 1967. When Guevara died soon after, the Italian quickly began distributing the picture. Korda never received royalties, but the photograph eventually made its way around the globe" (New York Times). In Cuba "Korda's photograph is permanently installed in the Plaza de la Revolución and pinned on the walls of most homes" (Goldberg, 159). Along with the cropped portrait of Korda's Guerrillero Heroico, this edition features a gatefold of the uncropped negative, together with images of Castro at the Lincoln Memorial, and the two leaders captured in playful, relaxed moments. With 46 full-page and four gatefold photogravures; essay on Korda in Spanish and English by Jaime Sarusky. See Goldberg, 156-7. From the library of photojournalist Peter Turnley and signed by him. Winner of numerous awards, Turnley has "photographed almost every important international news event of the last 15 years" as a leading photojournalist for Newsweek and contributing editor for Harper's Magazine (New York Times).
