Descripción:

Lynn Penny Post with No 1 receiving office h/s. Spoilt by blue ink stains at right. Long letter discussing books purchased, an atlas the writer was forming with maps dating back to 1560 and astronomical observations. 4pp. MACKEY'S THEORY OF THE EARTH. (Vol. viii., pp. 468. 565.; Vol. ix., p. 89.) The whole of his MSS. came into my possession after his demise. Amongst these was a MS. of his Life, written by himself, and of which I took a faithful copy: which I have transcribed for gentlemen who wish to possess a copy. The original is in the possession of a Mr. Brereton of Flitcham, near Lynn, Norfolk, to whom I sold all the MSS., Mr. Brereton being an intimate friend of S. A. Mackey. Sampson Arnold Mackey (1765-1843) was a Norwich shoemaker. He pursued his own studies in the fields of astronomy, geology, and world mythology. Mackey formulated his personal theories on a variety of subjects, including equinoctial precession, ancient history and mythology. He gave lectures and made several publications describing his theories. N° de ref. de la librería
