FIRST EDITION. 8vo., pp. xii, 1-283 plus chronology of events and index. Sketch map of the Middle East by H. W. Hawes. Twenty-two b/w photographic illustrations. Original green cloth, sound/MINT. Interior sound/FINE. Dust jacket sound/FINE in protective acetate. Freya Stark had a remarkable time during World War II. Attached to the Ministry of Information and the Foreign Office for war service she used her quite considerable linguistic abilities and knowledge of the Middle East to counter German propaganda and activities as agents provocateurs. The task, lasting seven years, was to convince the Middle East to trust in the Allies' eventual victory, and during the war she and her colleagues succeeded. Dust in the Lion's Paw is therefore a fascinating autobiography covering the years 1939-46, and can be read as a personal companion to her earlier book, East is West, in which she sketches the Arab side of her war work. This is also the last of he autobiographies following on from Traveller's Prelude, 1893-1927, Beyond Euphrates, 1928-1933, and The Coast of Incense, 1933-1939. N° de ref. de la librería 10434

Descripción de la librería: We specialise in travel, adventure and exploration books published between about 1900 and 1960, loosely referred to as post-imperialist travel writing. Although most books are the first-hand experiences of their authors, we have included books of general interest about a particular area or incident and autobiographies and biographies by and of famous travellers or adventurers. You will also find some books we consider of particular merit outside our somewhat arbitrary date range. Mark Culme-Seymour Proprietor
