EARLY EDITION. HEAVY. Previous owner's names to front endpapers of each volume. A good amount of rubbing to edges and spine. Light shelfwear to board surfaces. A little bit of fraying, folding and tiny tears to spine caps. Corners very lightly bumped and rubbed. A 4" tear to front board along spine of volume II. Rear hinge repaired to volume I. A bit of age-tanning to pages. No Index. Lovely pipe aroma. Gilt lettering to spine and gilt design of an illuminating oil lamp to front board. A beautiful intricate design, something between Arabic and Celtic, pressed into both front and rear black cloth-covered boards of all volumes. Rather clean, unmarked text. With a number of illustrations, maps, charts and such throughout. Measures 7.75 x 11 inches. 864 / 870 / 896 / 994 pp. Original copyright 1898. Volume I: A-- Feasts; Volume II: Feign -- Kinsmen; Volume III: Kir -- Pleiades; Volume IV: Pleroma -- Zuzim. This extensive work has been published to aid the teaching of the Bible. "It is a Dictionary of the Old and New Testaments, together with the Old Testament Apocrypha, according to the Authorized and Revised English Versions, and with constant reference to the original tongues. Every effort has been made to make the information it contains reasonably full, trustworthy, and accessible. Articles have been written on the names of all Persons and Places, on the Antiquities and Archaeology of the Bible, on its Ethnology, Geology, and Natural History, on Biblical Theology and Ethic, and even on the obsolete or archaic words occurring in the English versions. Illustrations are confined to subjects which cannot be easily understood without their aid," (from the Preface). N° de ref. de la librería 69370
