Título: DESERT, MARSH AND MOUNTAIN The World of a ...
Editorial: London: Collins 1979
Año de publicación: 1979
FIRST REPRINT, 1980. 4to., pp. 7-299 plus glossary of foreign terms and index. Ten maps and innumerable and splendid b/w photographs by Wilfred Thesiger. Original light brown cloth sound/FINE. Interior clean/FINE. Small gift dedication to previous owner on front pasted down endpaper. Dust jacket price clipped, o/w sound/FINE. Unlike his later and similar work, Visions of a Nomad, this earlier collection of photographs by Wilfred Thesiger is accompanied by far more text including an extensive autobiographical prologue covering the years 1910 to 1945. This conveniently leads up to the following two decades of extensive exploration in some of the least accessible places of the world, which are the subject of these truly wonderful photographs. There are five sections in all; The Desert: 1945-50, Persia and Kurdistan, The Marshes: 1950-58, Mountains, and finally The Yemen: 1977-78. The Desert and The Marshes were both the subject of Thesiger's earlier books Arabian Sands and The Marsh Arabs. These photographs are a wonderful testament to a way of life now tragically gone forever. The 20th century was very fortunate in being able to have a record of some of the glory it lost as seen through the eyes and camera of this very remarkable explorer. N° de ref. de la librería 10552

Descripción de la librería: We specialise in travel, adventure and exploration books published between about 1900 and 1960, loosely referred to as post-imperialist travel writing. Although most books are the first-hand experiences of their authors, we have included books of general interest about a particular area or incident and autobiographies and biographies by and of famous travellers or adventurers. You will also find some books we consider of particular merit outside our somewhat arbitrary date range. Mark Culme-Seymour Proprietor
