Undated, but appears to be 1940's ( The British Library dates the first issue as 1944 but others give 1940 ). Book size - 7.5 x 5.25 inches, pp. b&w frontis + 256 + 3 plates, hardback in dustjacket. Book condition - Very Good ; contents clean, one inscription in ink on the flyleaf ( " to Derick, David ' ), preliminaries show some patchy light foxing with occasional spots of foxing in the textblock, fore-edge moderately spotted, back inner hinge intact, front inner has a small area of loss towards the base, binding sound ; publisher's blue cloth with title in black on the spine and front ; corners lightly rubbed and a little bent, boards edges good, back clean, spine complete with ends a bit creased but not split, spine colour slightly faded but the title remains complete and clear, front clean. Dustjacket - Good plus ; corners slightly rubbed, back quite dusty and with a small nick on the top edge and small closed tear (c. 1.5 cm ) at the top of the hinge, spine complete with the ends showing some nicks and rubbing and light soiling, spine colour illustration title complete and clear, front hinge intact, front clean with no no real marks and colour illustration and title in good order, not price-clipped ; dj. now in clear, removable wrapper.
