Descripción

FIRST EDITION of this Nobel Prize winner's last and rarest book, the only book he illustrated himself (WITH 13 ORIGINAL ETCHINGS, 12 of which are full page and hors-texte). There are 12 brief humorous and erotic prose texts, each facing a charming etching by Cela. Each copy was to be signed by the author/illustrator, but Cela died before any copies were completed and thus Marina Castaño de Cela, his widow, signed them in his stead. Although the projected edition was to comprise 325 numbered copies, only 30 were actually completed when he publishers died and the project was brought to a halt. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE 30 COPIES, finely printed on Arches wove paper and signed by Marina Castaño de Cela. Laid in is an autograph note (dated 2002) on fine laid paper signed by the publishers, Rosa Carmen Macià and Jordi Nubiola, presenting this copy to a prominent Barcelona art dealer. Folio. IN THE BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL DELUXE BINDING, quarter morocco and marbled boards. Uncut. With the original morocco-trimmed board slipcase. FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects. A PERFECT COPY OF AN EXTRAORDINARY BOOK, A UNIQUE TESTAMENT TO CELA'S ABILITIES AS BOTH WRITER AND ARTIST. It is the only one of Cela's books of which even the Fundación Camilo José Cela does not have a copy (they're apparently too broke to spring for this one.). N° de ref. de la librería 38194
