This account of a voyage in the West Indies in the early 1900s makes fascinating reading in comparison to the same area today. In addition to "discovering" the Caribbean on his extended nautical travels, Sir Frederick interlaces his own experiences, encounters and observations with pertinant historical writings and records along his way, particularly the WE's long association with Britain. His description of Kingston's disastrous earthquake in 1907 makes interesting reading. First published c1908 (preface date) this popular edition 1912. 387 pages including index, followed by two pages publisher's adverts, hand coloured frontis by W D Adams, 54 b/w photos by the author, four maps, one folded at back. Red hard covers with black front titles VG with few small spots, spine sunned with gilt titles dulled, narrow fade strip back board adjacent spine, light wear spine extremities, lower edges, dealer label top corner front pastedown, neat ink name/address dated 1916 top corner FFEP, light foxing few early/late pages, textblock otherwise very good.
