Written by some of Coventry's finest writers, Coventry Tales explores the fabric of our city, reminding us that Coventry is both special and unique. If you love Coventry and appreciate storytelling and poetry at their very best, you will love this book. So sit back, relax and enjoy a good read.

From the Publisher:

Coventry. Is it a city in the shadows of Birmingham? Or a city of vision and purpose, with a proud history and a bright future?

Earlier this year, I asked that question to a group of local writers - a group that includes some of Coventry's best-known storytellers. I asked them to come up with stories, poems and monologues inspired by our home city.

The response has been amazing. Local writers have been inspired to create stories and poems: insights from our past and our present; narratives that explore the fabric of our city and what makes it unique; stories that celebrate the character and life of Coventry and the people who inhabit her. Here you will find writing that will make you laugh and writing that will make you thoughtful. Above all, you will find stories and poems that remind all of us what makes Coventry special.

The very best entries are published here. Renowned local authors Ann Evans and Rosalie Warren are both represented, as is `people's poet' Martin Brown, whose work will be well known to regular readers of the Coventry Telegraph.

Other writers may be less well known, yet their contributions are equally good. Time and time again, as I was reading through the entries, I was struck by how proficient our local writers are. Whether it is due to living in Coventry - perhaps the authorities have put something into the water? - or just pure coincidence, our local authors are arguably amongst the most talented in the land. So, once you've finished reading this book, why not seek out other books by our authors and enjoy those as well?

If you love Coventry and you enjoy storytelling and poetry at its very best, you will love this book. So sit back, relax and enjoy a good read.
