26.0 x 22.0cms, 40pp + 32 tipped in colour plates, 12 sepia drawings & 16 pencil drawings; very good hardback some stains on board covers and two small nips from buckram spine Martens sailed on the Beagle in 1834 and lived in St Leonards until 1878. Lindsay writes that 'it was his destiny to be the first artist to make here a tradition in landscape, and Sydney must ever esteem his memory, for he was her first painter-lover.
