INCREDIBLE ARCHIVE KEPT BY DR RUDOLPH G. ARNDT, ICHTHYOLOGIST; AUTHOR; HERPETOLOGIST; BOTANIST. GRADUATE OF CORNELL UNIVERSITY; EMERITUS PROFESSOR OF STOCKTON UNIVERSITY, GALLOWAY, NEW JERSEY. INCREDIBLE HANDWRITTEN NOTEBOOKS, COMPLETE WITH OVER 100 DRAWINGS OF FISH; FISHES. This scientific, handwritten and hand drawn collection of the late Dr Arndt is phenomenal in its scope and remarkable in its drawings of fish. There are 4 or 5 different fishes on a page and the illustrations cover 50 pages of the 1962 notebook, which is full of his handwritten notes; lectures, etc. These books were used by Arndt when he was a student at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York. There are well over 100 drawings; 2 separate (both filled) notebooks; a map of the Ithaca area where Cornell is located; an additional large envelope that has numerous detailed typed and handwritten notes pertaining to many of his herpetology/mammalogy "field trips,". Without counting every page I would calculate that there are well over 300+ pages within these brilliant writings of a noted professor and author in the field of biology and science. Dr. Arndt was an Emeritus Professor of Stockton University. He began his undergraduate studies at Queens College and Cornell University earning a MS and PhD in Animal biology and Vertebrate Zoology. Unlike many biologists who focus on a narrow field of study, Dr. Arndt was interested in everything in the natural world. He was a prolific writer and published over 60 scientific articles and co-authored two books on the fishes of North and South Carolina which co-described two species of pygmy sunfish. The first note book is dated 1961-1962, it is missing the front and back covers yet appears to be complete. The second notebook is dated 1962 and is full; complete with front and back covers; internally fresh and intact, and with the drawings of fish. There is a separate huge envelope full of notes on mammalogy titled "Trapping Small Animals for Scientific Reasons" complete with locations; dates; time of year, etc. This massive unparalleled archive is quite a tribute to Dr Arndt and his massive scientific material which is now here for all to view, to appreciate, and to learn, from this admirable educator. Condition: This whole collection is in G+ to VG- condition. Some pieces (the complete spiral workbook) are nicer than others, but all are intact. The 1961 notebook has all loose pages; lacks front and back cover, yet appears to be complete. The front cover of the 1962 notebook shows stains and discoloration as shown in images, and this book is internally fresh and tight. The huge envelope accompanying the notebooks has numerous handwritten and typed pages with complete packets of field notes stapled together and pertaining to different field trips.
