16mo. original beige cloth (cloth extensively strengthened with black gaffer tape, endpapers and fore-edge a little thumbed); pp. iv, 206, with diagrams & photos. A good reading copy of a scarce and sought after guide recording the first ascents of many classic lines, including London Wall, Great Slab, Quietus etc. [Neate Q141]. The copy belonged to 60s gritstone hard man Pat Fearnehough, with his name and drawing of ice axe to FFE, and occasional comments and additions in text ('Jankers Groove - Super Direct. - D.D.Whillans. Instead of traversing to the right from Jankers Crack, ascend the bulge directly beow the groove on jammed fists / Severe if you can do it') . Fearnehough died on expedition to Latok II in 1978. Descripción de la librería

Established in 2001, Arapiles Mountain Books is the only specialist mountaineering bookseller in the Southern Hemisphere. We carry a large stock of fine, rare and out of print mountaineering and adventurous travel books, with a particular emphasis on British, Australian, New Zealand and Himalayan climbing narratives and guides. We have an especially wide selection of early - mid 20th travel books in dustwrapper, signed books and expedition memorabilia. On-line catalogues can be browsed on this website ('Browse Our Inventory'). The proprietor, Andrew Long, has climbed the world over since 1980, and has spent much of his time over the (last few) years, collecting and reading climbing and travel narratives by more intrepid writers. He will be happy to answer any queries or provide advice on condition, approximate value, rarity or just plain readability free of charge. A booksearch service is available. Although we are a mail order store, visitors are most welcome to browse our stock by making an appointment. I am currently in the process of setting up a retail shop in Castlemaine, Central Victoria, and books may either be inspected here or at my Melbourne office at 54-58 Smith Street, Collingwood. Please allow a few days for me to organise the books. Thanks for your patience. Appointments to view the stock may be made by calling Andrew on +61 410 650 923 or by email to
