Sinopsis: This book examines the Christian heritage of America throughout its history, surveying the founding fathers fight to establish a free society, the impact of the Great Awakening up through the Civil War, and the slow decline of Christianitys influence since the end of World War II. The author also presents some thoughts on how our modern-day culture can be turned back toward a reliance on God and the Christian principles of the Bible.
About the Author: In 1945, John Howard returned from World War II service in the First Infantry Division with two silver stars, two purple hearts, and a commitment to use his career to sustain and strengthen Americas religious ideals, for which many of his friends had fought and died. During the Eisenhower Administration, he headed the first program using government contracts to open jobs for qualified minority applicants. He was also a member of the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse. Dr. Howard served as President of Rockford College for seventeen years; he served as the National President of the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities for three years; he currently serves as senior fellow at The Howard Center on Family, Religion, and Society. Over forty of his presentations have been published in Vital Speeches, a monthly publication offering transcripts of noteworthy speeches in the fields of business, politics, education, government, and more. John and his wife, Jan, have four children and nine grandchildren.
