5th impression. 8vo, full blue cloth stamped in gray, pale blue and gilt with a wonderfully evocative cover and spine design that deserves to appear in any book on great trade bindings. 24 full page black and white illustrations plus initial caps and tailpieces by Frank C. Pape. He went on to do the wonderfully popular Anatole France and Arthur Machen illustrated books, in those matching black bindings in the 1920s which made his name. But here, early in his career, he was doing equally fine work and these books are tough to find in nice condition. This is one of his best early books. Bookplate to front pastedown.
