EXCEPTIONALLY RARE. New stunning antiqued half calf with brown cloth. Leather title label in gilt. Seven gilt bands to the spine. Decorative gilt borders to both sides of the edge of the spine and leather corners of the boards. Title sheet for each day of the battle. Sheet for day one darkened and repaired. Five maps shown for each day.These maps were originally issued in a folder to commemorate the opening of the Chickamauga Battlefield as a national historic site. The maps are very large and extremely detailed. (36.0" x 23.5"). Each map is on a double page and has has been bound with tabs to avoid tearing when opened.There are some small closed tears to a few of the maps expertly repaired. First day includes Sheet A. Preliminary movements, Sept 18th and sheets 1 to 4. The second day includes sheets 5 to 8 and Sheet No. Z. Movements of Sept. 21st and 22nd. (after the battle). Ten maps as called for. Each map gives troop positions and movements, names of commanding officers, a legend describing the action depicted, roads, houses, names of residents, fences, relief by hachures, vegetation, drainage and fords."
