Painting the Textures of Light in Watercolor
Often, inspiration comes not so much from the subject itself as from the effect light has on the subject. Light tells the viewer what is happening in that moment of time - how the light faded out the leaves and made the shadows reflect the sky, or what time of day it was because of the angle of the shadows. About the Author: Jane Freeman graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.F.A. but didn't begin working in watercolors until 1989. To supplement her education, she has taken workshops with many favorite North Light authors, including Arleta Pech, Sueellen Ross, Judy Morris and John Salminen. Her work has been exhibited in many national and international shows. She is a featured artist in two books, Splash 7: A Celebration of Light and How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Still Life and Florals (International Artist). Her work has appeared in American Artist magazine. She is the editor of the popular website www.artcafe.net, is a contributing writer for www.worldofwatercolor.com and has a web blog about painting on her own website www.janefreeman.com.
