Descripción:

The Case of the Hesitant Hostess by Erle Stanley Gardner was published by William Morrow & Company, New York, in 1953. Not a "formal" ex-library copy*, this 5" X 7 1/4", 275-page, 59-year-old, First Edition offering is in G/G+ condition. The book is in overall quite nice physical shape, but does show some modest yellowing of endpapers front and back as well as text's pages. It has a slight left-to-right "leaning", when closed, due to perhaps its being at the bottom, unfortunately, of a stack/pile of additional books for some extended period of time, before, thankfully, being rescued. There is spotty shelf wear seen along top and bottom edges of both cover boards as well as at top and bottom edges of spine and at the four outer tips of boards. *Although not ex-library, per say, this offering may well have been from some sort of book lending concern, as "15c FOR 3 DAYS 5c EACH ADDL DAY" is stamped in smallish, faded gray characters, once, vertically, on right side of front paste down page, and once, horizontally, near top of front loose end page. Also, "Property of PARAMOUNT.", in same faded gray letters is stamped near bottom of front lose end page as well as on the bottom of body of text's pages. There is, too, a mildly rough/disturbed, rectangular-shaped area, 5/8"-wide X 5 1/4"-high, just to the left of the middle of the back paste down page, which appears to be the result of someone's removing an attachment of some sort. The dust jacket has a newer look and sheen than its 59 years might normally possess; it looks, end-to-end, surprisingly nice/well-preserved, especially the jacket's front cover section! There is modest shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine, a tiny tear at one point along top edge of jacket's back cover section, and a 1 3/4"-long, horizontal, mild crease, in the middle-third portion, near the bottom edge of same. From front inside jacket flap, "A sparkling Perry Mason story demonstrating that the female is more deadly than the male.EXCEPT when the male happens to be Perry Mason!" I'll spare you any more details as to the story line--if you're reading this, you know the routine. SPECIAL NOTE: This offering is NOT LISTED, first, last, or anywhere in between, on the reverse side of page 275, on a page headed "Books by ERLE STANLEY GARDNER."(Velvet Claws tops the list of titles, while Grinning Gorilla completes same). Thank you very much!!. N° de ref. de la librería

Descripción 1953. Hard Cover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. Please see any and all photos connected with this listing. No Dustjacket. A bit scuffed but all pages intact and legible. Good reading copy. Clean. No store stamps. --- --- THE CASE OF THE HESITANT HOSTESS --- Book 44 in the Perry Mason series) --- Perry Mason defends a penniless ex-salesman accused of armed robbery, confident that the eyewitness testimony of a nightclub hostess will clear him, but when his star witness goes AWOL, the case takes a deadly turn. --- MURDER BY THE DAY --- Mortimer Rutherford, a millionaire with a morbid fear of dying in an inferno, has completely fireproofed his penthouse. How then was he found incinerated in his newly purchased designer armchair? A chair, that like the rest of his home, was most recently treated with a new fireproofing compound he helped develop with a chemist friend. --- THE FENCE --- HERE'S THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES --- Jim Dunn stopped his jeep on the county road under the carved sign "TREDWELL" which pointed to the new fill across the small valley. Light spring green along the creek made sharp contrast with the high mountains which formed a snow-packed, bleak horseshoe. A shelter, a protection for Aspen Valley, and a reminder that winter had retreated only a few hundred feet. . . Nº de ref. del artículo: 23872
