"Dr Ehmann prepared this manuscript in the years 1978-1987. Frauke Haasemann and I were collaborators on the text from the outset. Dr. Ehmann conceived this book as a handbook, a quick practical reference for American choral musicuans. The original, incomplete manuscript in German was written in 'Stichworte' or outline form. It has been my task to follow the form provided, translating and giving explanations where needed. At Dr. Ehmann's request, I supplemented the final document with current vocal pedagogical concepts. CANTARE ET SONARE appears as an act of celebration during the centennial of Dr. Ehmann's birth. The year began with a weekend of study, reflection and music making in Herford, Germany, on December 4-5, 2004. In the years since Dr. Ehmann's death. I have had the opportunity to apply the KANTOREI PRAXIS principles of Schutz, Bach, Mendelasohn and Distler for diverse reasons. I have found therm useful for secular as well as sacred works and for cghoirs at all levels of ability. The addition of contemporary works unknown to Dr. Ehmann is my work alone. Hinslaw Music has been extremely gracious and generous in allowing me to use selections from their catalogue as illustrations of choral performance practices. Preparing this manuscript for publication is one of my life's most satisfying assignments. The privilege of assisting Drs. Ehrmann and Haasemann was unspeakable. With this publication, my mentors hoped to teach American conductors the tools of choral music making and to open new, expansive vistas for individual, creative work with choirs." This book has 276 pages and is profusely illustrated with musical scores. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, a FINE copy of this EXTREMELY SCARCE title. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 062148
