17pp. Folio. Paper wrappers. British Parliamentary Paper HC45 Visiting magistrates report beneficial results of the tread-wheel as a healthy exercise. . The tread wheel was first introduced in Brixton gaol in 1817 and was used through to the early 20th century. Parliamentary papers of this period are rare. It was not until 1836 that provision was made for their sale to the public. Together with a further 2pp Parliamentary report of 1824 listing jails using Tread Mills. Hours of labour.
