This VERY SCARCE book of poems is by a Black Louisville writer born in Nelson County, Kentucky, Feb.2, 1861. When this book was published, he was the Principal of the S. Coleridge-Taylor Colored School, and was a teacher and/or Principal for 50 years in Louisville. He was in Who's Who in America, when few Blacks were included. He wrote other books, several songs and a Play that received acclaim in America AND abroad. ------- Other than just inside the front & rear boards, where "foxing" exists & a prior owner's name is atop the first blank flyleaf, the pages are unmarked & pristine. There are several negligible light spots on the top & front edges of the front board, and a 2" light area on the rear board's top left corner, with slight dark spatter on the rear board's bottom right corner. These condition issues are mentioned for accuracy, BUT are not major when measured against the totality of this Scarce and important book in the arena of Black Studies. VERY GOOD minus, and not bad at all for an 86 year old piece. Lists to $300.00 online. -- THE PHOTO IS A STOCK IMAGE -- NOT A PHOTO OF THIS COPY !!. N° de ref. del artículo 562
