435pp. A tragedy about a young man trapped into marriage by a scheming older woman, his only way of escape is by killing her. Rumours were that the novel was autobiographical, although in truth it was more likely to be wish fulfillment. Published originally by the Black Manikin press in 1926, the book was declared 'unmailable' on grounds of obscenity, by the US. Post Office. This 1931 edition was printed 'by popular demand', basically to try and block the flow of pirated copies. It's identical to the first, except for the addition of a specially written preface by Thomas Mann. Fore and bottom edges untrimmed, some edge rubbing to wraps and edge browning to pages, else a very good copy in its original soft wraps. 8vo. N° de ref. de la librería
