The Burro That Learned to Dance by Harry Levy was published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York, in 1942. This 43-page, 72-year-old, approximately 8 1/2" X 6 1/4", First Edition offering is a rebound, ex-library copy in G condition. There is modest yellowing of end papers front and back as well as pages of text, and light foxing is seen on a number of pages. Some of the standard library markings are present. But, at 72, this slender volume is still in quite nice shape, physically speaking. Eusabio lives and works in the little pueblo of San Geronimo. He toils daily on a large hacienda -- works like a dog, really. When Sunday comes, Eusabio is overjoyed, because it affords him the opportunity to travel to nearby Huancayo and its festive market along the Calle Real, Huancayo's main street. And, Eusabio's faithful, hardworking burro, Rocinante, is made to transport him there and back--week after week after week. Needless to say, the color and excitement of traveling to Huancayo does not hold the same allure for the humble burro. No one, young or old, pays the least bit of attention to Rocinante, while almost everyone admires his master, who plays his flute masterfully. Then, one Sunday, Rocinante hears something that causes him to act in a totally new, unusual manner. I'll say no more -- you can discover what turns this charming tale takes if you so choose. OF SPECIAL NOTE: All through this book, the beautifully rendered Drawings of Howard Simon successfully bring the story, its characters and their surroundings, to life. Half of the pictures are done in black and white and have the look of soft charcoal sketches, while the other half are lovely combinations of blue green, rust, and some black. Thanks!!.
